Student Activities

The Civil War class studied this lithograph of Senator Charles Sumner being beaten...	...and then the students decided to do a tableau of the lithograph.

Our majors and minors get to know each other through a variety of activities. First, they meet in classes, which are small so they get to know each other early on. Also, they all have to take HIST 70, the Historical Imagination class, when they are sophomores and that helps to create a sense of community for our majors.

Student Activities and Field Trips

History students at Pacific have a Facebook page and have formed the Pacific Historical Society, which meets during the semester for pizza and fun activities.

Students produce a journal each year that consists of their own papers.

The department has organized a chapter of Phi Alpha Theta, the national History Honor Society.

Students also participate in class field trips such as to the Los Angeles Holocaust Museum with Professor Gesine Gerhard and to the Asian Art Museum in San Francisco with Professor Greg Rohlf. And of course, the class on John Muir and the Conservation Movement always makes its popular field trip to Yosemite with Professor Bill Swagerty.

Through Pacific Fund grants and other funding sources, students have traveled to present at conferences and conduct their own research.
