May 1The Record had a brief about the Torture Survivors study that will be presented at Pacific Wednesday evening. Pacific worked with a non-profit group to try and figure out how many torture survivors live in the United States.

The Carolina Sun News had a story on alumna Linda Markert, who is the top choice to become the next provost for Coastal Carolina University. Her association with Pacific was in the story.
Jeffrey Becker, assistant professor of political science, was quoted in Mike Fitzgerald's column today about whether it was right or wrong for a private investigator to forge court documents because she was morally opposed to the death penalty. Becker said that if the woman really wanted to perform civil disobedience, she should have done it in the open to make a statement. By covering her tracks, she diminished her act and did something illegal at the same time.

The Record had a short story about the Department of Visual Arts "Hatching Great Ideas" exhibit that showing this week.
The Record had an editorial praising Dr. Don DeRosa and the university as a whole for talking with city officials on ways to get students more involved in the community and reduce crime overall.
The San Francisco Chronicle will host a noon-time chat with Shirin Abadi, the Nobel Peace Prize Winner who is speaking on campus tonight. The talk will be Web cast on the Chronicles Web site along with information plugging Dr. Ebadi's appearance at Pacific tonight.

The Record had a story about a bill sponsored by Congressman Jerry McNerney to increase funding to schools to encourage them to teach math and science to Hispanics. Pacific Regent Jose Hernandez was quoted in the story. The Benerd School of education also was mentioned.

Carolyn Johnson, anchor and health reporter for ABC-7 (KGO-TV), came to the dental school today to interview Dr. Jeffrey Wood, chair of pediatric dentistry, and a parent of a pediatric patient. The story will detail the new California state law requiring all incoming public school children (kindergarten or first grade) to have an oral health assessment by May 31, 2007. It will air at 5 p.m.

The Record had a feature story on Edison High School senior Andrea Ramirez, who is going to attend Pacific next year. She just earned a scholarship to pay for her books while here.

The Times Picayune had a brief that said Arthur Dugoni, former dean of the School of Dentistry, will be the principal speaker at LSU Health Sciences Center's May 19 commencement.
Biology professor Greg Anderson was quoted in a story in The Record about the rapid invasion of Arundo donax in The Delta. It's a plant the sucks all the oxygen out of the water, causing plants and fish to die.
Record reporter Jeff Hood, who just quit after 20 years at the paper to take a public relations job with City of Lodi, had a farewell column that listed his favorite stories over the years. Some of them were stories about Pacific volleyball and basketball games.

The Record had a story today about a Lodi man who is building a Web site about the Lodi Grape Bowl, a popular football game in the '50s between Pacific's and Cal's football teams.

KATC TV in Louisiana, as well as KLFY TV in Louisiana, both ran a story that said Pacific Alumnus Robert J. Anslow, Jr. won the Richard Day Award, given for significant accomplishments to people in Ohio. Anslow is a native of Louisiana but currently lives in Ohio.
Dean Chuck Williams was quoted in the San Jose Mercury News today about Gov. Schwarzenegger's sudden problems with the state budget and his attempts to quietly shift money around to hide it.
The Record ran a story today that said Assemblyman Tom Berryhill introduced legislature that would scrap the existing lottery system, citing a high drop-out rate in community colleges as a reason that the lottery doesn't work. The article mentioned that University of the Pacific is a private university and doesn't receive lottery money.

The Sacramento Bee had a feature story on Afghan refugee Hakeem Naim and his struggle to escape Taliban persecution. His girlfriend is an alumna of Pacific, the story says.
The Record had a review of Saturday's commencement ceremony at Pacific.

The Fresno Bee had a story about a new exercise video being put out by "Girls Next Door" star Bridget Marquardt. Marquardt is a Pacific Alumna. Her relationship with the university is mentioned in the story.
The Times Picayune in New Orleans had a review of the Louisiana State University commencement over the weekend. Arthur Dugoni was the commencement speaker. His association with Pacific was mentioned in the story.
The San Mateo Daily Journal had a feature story on local teacher Kate Smith, who lost 100 pounds and recently was featured on the cover of People Magazine for her weight loss. Smith is a Pacific alumna. Her association with the school is mentioned in the story.

The Business Wire ran a story that said McGeorge alumnus Darren K. Cottriel joined the international law offices of Jones Day in Irvine.
PR Newswire ran a story that said former Thomas J. Long School of Pharmacy and Health Sciences professor Shawn A. Scranton Victory was named the new vice president of scientific operations at Pharma, Inc.
School of International Studies dean Margee Ensign's interview with Ron Owens on KGO radio is scheduled to be aired at 10 a.m. today.
An editorial written by Margee Ensign a few months ago was published in the Sacramento Bee today.
Dr. Greg Anderson was on the noon and 5 p.m. news on Channel 10 yesterday to give updates on the two whales in the Sacramento River.

Pacific alumnus Randall Schaber, a land developer, was quoted in Bob Shalit's column in the Sacramento Bee today. He discussed the friendship between his late uncle, former McGeorge dean Gordon Schaber, and Raymond Burr.
The California Aggie - UC Davis' campus newspaper, had an article that pointed out that women outnumber men on the campuses of eight of the nine members of the Big West Conference. Pacific is one of those schools, a fact pointed out in the article.

Scott Rausch, with the Housing and Greek Life Office, was quoted in a front page story in the Modesto Bee about all the stuff that students leave behind when they go home for the summer. He said Pacific donates much of the stuff to St. Mary's Homeless shelter.
The San Gabriel Valley Tribune had a feature story on the top scholarship winners in their graduating senior class this year. One of the students, Diana Jo, will attend Pacific in the fall, the story said.
The Rossmoor News in Walnut Creek had a story about an upcoming vocal concert. One of the vocalists, Marsha Wehrenberg, told the reporter that she grew to love opera from attending many opera concerts at Pacific while she grew up in Stockton.
McGeorge School of Law was mentioned in a story in both the Sacramento and Milwaukee Business Journals today. The story compared the different state laws that determine when a person is a lawyer. Some states only require a person to pass the state bar. Others require law school training. The story compared McGeorge's tuition to that of the online Northwestern California School of Law.

The Sacramento Bee had a story that said Pacific alumnus Damon G. Eberhart, 56, owner of a longtime certified public accounting firm in Roseville, was appointed to the Granite Community Bank board of directors. The story pointed out that Eberhart graduated from Pacific.
