What to do When the Media Calls

Don’t Panic!

The Marketing and University Communications staff has compiled a list of tips on how to have a pleasant interview experience with the media, located on the right side of this page.

The staff has drawn upon decades of experience they have working with the media, including nearly 25 years of cumulative experience as reporters.

They also have asked for tips from other reporters currently working in the field and attended many seminars on how to improve interviews.

But when in doubt, feel free to ask.

On the Stockton Campus

Media Relations Manager Patrick Giblin can be reached at 209.946.2313 or after hours at 209.606.4417. He also frequently checks his  e-mail when away from the office.

Media Relations Coordinator Rhashad Pittman can also be reached by  e-mail, in his office at 209.946.3275 or at home at 408.386.8401.

Both are willing to sit in the room during the interview, if that makes you more comfortable, or to help you prepare before the interview.

On the San Francisco campus

Contact the Office of Public Relations at 415.929.6434 so they can provide assistance and if you’re unable to conduct the interview in time for the reporter’s deadline, locate another faculty member to handle the interview for you.

On the Sacramento campus

Call  Mike Curran at 916.739.7115.
