Newspaper Readership Program

For the past several years, Pacific’s Office of Housing and Greek Life has sponsored the Newspaper Readership Program on campus.

During the academic year, the New York Times, Stockton Record, and USA Today are delivered to every residential facility on campus as well as to the dining hall and library.

Beginning Fall 2006, the Newspaper Readership Program will be integrated into the three new Pacific Seminars as a required part of the coursework.

The goals of the readership program in the Pacific Seminars are as follows:

  • To enrich the intellectual experience in the Pacific Seminars, which focus on the question, “What is a Good Society?”
  • To become aware of important national and international events and to promote informed conversations about them among students and faculty inside and outside of class.
  • To become more politically engaged citizens.
  • To develop the critical thinking, reading, and verbal skills that are useful for later study at the university and for life beyond it.
  • To promote the life-long habit of daily reading of a newspaper.
