Admission Information

Each department evaluates applicants on their record of academic performance, Graduate Record Examination scores, personal statement, and the availability of faculty as advisors to determine the qualification and potential of the students.

Admission Criteria

  • GRE General Exam is required. Subject test is not required. Based on last years entering class GRE scores for accepted students were within the following ranges: verbal 420-700, quantitive 590-770, analytical 532-800 (paper based) or 4-6 (computer based). The minimum requirements: Verbal and Quantitative = 1100 combined and Analytical = 3.0. GRE scores can be no older than five years old.
  • An average of B (3.0), or higher, in all upper-division coursework.
  • Those applicants whose native/principle language of instruction is not English are required to take the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language). The minimum acceptable TOEFL scores for admission are 550 (paper-based), or 213 (computer-based) or 79-80 (Internet-based). For those applicants applying for a teaching assistantship, the minimum TOEFL scores are 575 (paper), 89-90 (internet) or 230 (computer). TOEFL scores can be no older than two years old.
  • An essay or personal statement that focuses on the applicant’s career objectives and personal ideals. Grammar and writing skills are an important part of the evaluation.
  • Three letters of recommendation, no older than one year.
  • Submit Application fee. Waivers are not available.
  • Supporting bank documentation, no longer than six months old (for international students).
  • Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts degree.

Admission Criteria and Procedure

Several criteria are used to admit students.

The criteria include GRE scores, grade point average (GPA), and letters of recommendation, personal statement, and research/academic background, in addition to committee, department, and Graduate School approval.
